Freaky Friday

we had this on DVD so I’ve seen it a bunch growing up—don’t know if I’ve rewatched it since I was a teenager though (or even earlier??)

this still rocks!! jamie lee curtis is so funny. as an adult, I appreciate a lot more about Tess, the mother-daughter relationship, and their very real conflicts. why ARE adults so tired? the therapy session where the guy’s like ‘the day was alright and then I got up.’ Ryan being an actual good stepdad making an effort. THE $10,000 HALIBUT. (I love halibut.) the million palm pilots and phones and whatever. pink slip, band of all time.

the hilarity of chad michael murray (iconic) having a crush on jamie lee curtis, lmao. the now creepy in retrospect aspect of him and a high school student having a romance! hit me baby one more time!

also, the scene where she gets her ear cartilage pierced was one of the scenes, along with the parent trap, that made me scared of piercing my ears lol. (I didn’t pierce my lobes until I was like 19 or 20 and then I got a whole bunch of cartilage piercings in quick succession!)

young me never figured out why she was so enamoured the goth girl guitarist. did i have a crush on her? did i want to be her? well, now i have a similar bob and wear too much black, so, yes.

endnote about orientalism, a word i did not know when i was ten but i do now!
