Film/TV

Not really any movies lately!

  • My partner cajoled me into watching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which I had initially dismissed while it was airing because I was burnt out on the world of ASOIAF and a show about a normal knight didn’t sound terribly interesting. As it turns out, everyone is right: it is excellent all the way through. Five stars, no notes.
  • I binge-watched season 19 of Jet Lag: The Game this past week so I could watch the finale in theatres. Dare I say this is the best season they’ve done? Beautiful sights, fantastic game design, amazing highs and lows.

Books

Reading is turning into my primary hobby now, and I’m continuing to have so much fun. I also keep buying books and then not reading them, because I’m busy also borrowing too many books from the library.

Lately, I’ve enjoyed:

  • Book Lovers by Emily Henry: probably my favourite romance novel I’ve read this year! Not that I’ve read a lot, but definitely the strongest of the bunch.
  • Uzumaki by Junji Ito: much funnier and also less scary than I expected.
  • The Will of the Many by James Islington: really exciting; I’m eagerly anticipating getting book 2 from the library now.

For spooky season, I’m reading The Haunting of Hill House and rereading The Shining.

Games

  • DESTINY 2 IS BACK BABY!!! I celebrated this by getting fucked up in PVP, as one does.
  • Playing Fields of Mistria once in a while, mostly to decorate. I’ve finished the mines and am slowly upgrading my farm. I should probably read a guide at this point for making money—I keep hoarding things because I don’t know what the minmax strategy is and my brain craves it.

Music

I went to see Hermanos Gutiérrez, who were amazing! I discovered their music last month, which was great timing for getting tickets to their tour.

Cat Diary

A couple of weeks ago, Sophie had digestion issues, so I had to whisk her away to the vet, an event that traumatized both of us. She’s good now, but it was the first health issue that’s come up since I adopted her earlier this year, so it stressed me out a lot. I took a lot of photos of her poop.

To commemorate it, I drew a comic:

5-panel comic. Sophie, my cat, hasn’t pooped in three days, since I brought her home from the vet for diarrhea. Sitting at my desk, I’m thinking, “if she doesn’t go this morning, I’ll call the vet after these meetings.” Later, I see her head to the litter box, and spy on her assuming her pooping position. Surprise: she poops a solid log!

Art

Lately, I’ve been thinking about what monetizing my art would look like. I’ve dabbled in getting paid for it over the years in informal contexts, but I’ve never put a dedicated effort toward it.

Cringetober

For October’s drawing challenge, I’ll be doing Cringetober again.

A list of 31 drawing prompts covering things like crossover, throwback, rule 63, redraws, and student AU.

I’m aiming to participate for all 31 days this time, though the time investment will be significantly less than Plein Airpril—the five minute sketch is going to make a few appearance, methinks. I’ll be posting on Mastodon every day, and eventually get them all onto my site for proper archiving. (I have yet to build the useful sketchbook posting system of my dreams.)

Unrelatedly, here’s a recent pencil sketch, which I don’t use often:

Pencil sketches of actresses from red carpet events: Daisy Edgar-Jones in a drapey dress with a deep neckline, Florence Pugh in an updo and a strapless dress with a voluminous cape flowing out from her arms, and Zendaya with a pixie cut and a beaded dress cut in a V in the back.
(Correction: Daisy Edgar-Jones outfit was from the Sense & Sensibility premiere)

I wanted to update my website homepage for Halloween, and had a fun idea for it, but sadly haven’t had the time or energy for it. Maybe I can pull it together sometime during the month…
