Weeknotes 43
Touch Grass
- went to the local bird sanctuary on Canada Day where, fittingly, I saw a lot of Canada geese and ducks, which followed us around when they saw we were carrying birdseed. (you’re allowed to feed the birds at the sanctuary.) I haven’t gotten around to looking at the digital photos I took, but eventually…
- walked along Granville Street downtown, which is a car-free zone for the World Cup. It was Brazil vs Norway gameday and it seemed that the crowd was overwhelmingly made up of Brazil fans. (I don’t go here—I’ve never watched
soccerfootball and don’t know the rules, lol—so I’m just enjoying everyone else’s excitement.)

Working on
- updated my reading page layout to be more compact
- drew for the first time in weeks. yay!
- everything else is just kind of languishing in WIP hell.

Games
- I played the new exotic mission in Destiny, which was very cool!
- also did Pit of Heresy, for Xenophage catty, and then farmed xeno catty kills (400, geez) at the good ol’ Grasp of Avarice entrance. I forgot what a banger the pirate-themed soundtrack is, and also how farming is such an unsatisfying way to spend time lol. Was it WORTH it?? (No.)
- I started playing Whisper of the House which is pretty relaxing!
Movies & TV
- went to see Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie (here’s a teaser, for the uninitiated), which I knew nothing about, except that people love it. We saw it in a packed theatre which made it a delightful experience. The Canadiana! Toronno, the CN Tower, skyDIVE into the SKYDOME (rogers centre WHO?), the 2008ness of it… and underneath all the absurdity, the friendship was really touching. a joy!!
- rewatched Project Hail Mary. Space is awesome. I still listen to the track Time Go Fishing all the time and it was great to watch the whole scene again.
- finally got around to watching House of the Dragon S3E1. BANGER. All the scenes at sea were amazing. I love dragons. (I’m going to be behind schedule for weeks, so no one spoil me please.)
- I hope to get around to watching X-Men '97 at some point lol (starting with season 1, which I didn’t actually properly watch the first time around)
- I’m halfway through Revenge of the Sith. This machete order watch of the films started 5+ years ago lol; at this point I’ve completely forgotten episodes IV and V (which I’ve only seen once each) (do NOT @ me) and probably should rewatch them.
Books
- picked up Batman: Dark Patterns, which I had read a bit of way back when it was still ongoing and I’m excited to get back into.
- also found the novel Circe from the used bookstore! I’ve been wanting to read it for a long time.
- read The Poppy War, which started off interesting despite its school setting (I think I’m too old for this kind of story now), but then gradually lost me anyway as it left school and moved into more serious territory.
- apparently The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy At All (aka the green yuri manga) is getting an anime adaptation and the opening theme is a Nirvana song
- weird that Nirvan(n)a, a band I have never listened to (do NOT @ me) gets two mentions in this post. I have two nickels.
- read A Court of Thorns and Roses, which was my first romantasy. This was, hmm, not for me.
- then I read Fourth Wing, which I liked better than ACOTAR—not hard to, when it has dragons—but not by much.
- I’m in my romantasy era I guess. I want to find a series I like!
- is it time for me to read Brandon Sanderson? (I keep saying this)
- where else can I get dragons? maybe I should reread Eragon to relive my youth.
- I also picked up a few zines/comics from the local comics fair!
